My Reaction to "No Speak English"

I think that if a person moves to a new place and does not change or adapt with the new things there, and keeps on thinking about the past where he/she had spend most of their life, can affect that person badly. It will affect that person badly because, it will make the person homesick, it will limit the person from going beyond his/her past, and it will affect the personality of the person. To conclude, a person must learn to adapt to new places if they are planning to settle there.

First of all, moving to a new place will make you homesick. As we have read in the story, Mamacita was very lonely when she had left her pink house in Mexico and traveled to her husband's apartment in the USA. She was very sad and she stayed in her room all the time and never came out. Mamacita stays in the room and watches the Spanish radio shows and sings all the homesick songs about her country because she is missing her home a lot. So, this is one reason that if you dont adjust to a new place, you will become homesick.

Secondly, if a person doesn't change according to the style of the new place, then a person will be limited from learning new things about the country. In this story, Mamacita didn't know how to speak English, but she had the oppurtunity to learn it and she just let the chance go. Mamacita doesn't want to forget her past, she wants to stay with the memories, the language, and her old pink house. Mamacita came to a new place but she didnt want to know anything about. This limited her from learning English and the culture of America. So, this is another reason why a person must learn to change. Otherwise, you will be left behind like Mamacita.

Lastly, a person might lose his original personality if he/she doesn't change themselves according to the culture of the new place. A cheerful person maybe quite happy at home, but when the person migrates to another country, all the happiness just falls to the ground. An example of how this can happen, is written in this story. Mamacita was a rich, cheerful and happy lady, but after she moved, she was like a lonely sad sack. This happened because she didn't take in the good feelings of being in a good country. So, this is the last reason which tells how a person will be affected if we dont change.

Concluding, a person must learn to adapt and change according to the different environment. Mamacita's hsband is a really nice man who saved his money to bring her closer to him. But it all turned out wrong and the worst part for Mamacita was when she saw that her son was learning English by watching a pepsi commercial on T.V. Hopefully, Mamacita will have to adjust with her area so that she doesn't feel sad about her past. To end, people have to change their style according to the place where they will settle.
